Tangled Butterflies for Peace

Quilted Hearts for Peace and Tangled Butterflies: Sharing Kindness Through Art

If you are a quilter or someone who loves to sew, you may already be familiar with Quilted Hearts for Peace, a heartfelt grassroots movement that began several years ago and has since spread around the world.

What Are Quilted Hearts for Peace?

Quilted Hearts for Peace is a kindness and community art project where people create small, handmade quilted hearts and leave them in public places for others to find — freely and anonymously.

These quilted hearts are made with love and intention and shared to:

  • Spread peace, comfort, and hope
  • Brighten a stranger’s day
  • Create a quiet moment of human connection through handmade art

This simple act of generosity has brought comfort to countless people and continues to inspire creative communities everywhere.

When Sewing Isn’t Your Medium

I absolutely love the intention behind Quilted Hearts for Peace. However, while I admire quilting, sitting down to sew quilted hearts requires more sewing skills than I personally have. My creative happy place is found in doodling, tangling, and mindful drawing.

A Zentangle-Inspired Way to Share Peace

Inspired by the mission of Quilted Hearts for Peace, I created an online art class where we create tangled butterflies using Zentangle-inspired patterns and mindful drawing techniques.

These tangled butterflies carry the same loving intention:

  • They are created slowly and mindfully
  • Each one is unique
  • They are shared anonymously in public spaces
  • They are meant to bring peace, calm, and a smile to the person who finds them

This is art for peace, accessible to anyone — no sewing experience required.

Why Tangled Butterflies?

Butterflies symbolize transformation, hope, and new beginnings. Combined with the calming practice of tangling, they become a powerful way to share kindness and creative mindfulness with the world.
